Pookkottur is a historic land of brave martyrs and great freedom fighters. By the last of twentieth century the financial and technological development, cultural invasion and environmental restlessness came in to emergence in all over India. This happened in thin area too. The end of nineties is remarkable due to the emerging of a group of youths who made positive interferences in the social and environmental issues of the society. By the year 2000 these took the shape of a voluntary youth organization forming Puma Club for Nature and Culture (Puma CNC) which is registered under the societies registration act of 1860. Beyond the frontier of political, religious, racial and all other types of partitions Puma aims the ever pertinent slogan “the spark of relief at the lament of time”. In the historic date May 1 of 2000 it entered to its path of activities with a video exhibition on conservation of wildlife. Since then it is advancing though the very difficult track of environment protection and social service. Our regular activities include environment education (like nature camps, trekking, seminars and various competitions …), Cultural programmes (Onam celebrations, observation of national and international days, sports tournaments, Coaching camps …) and social services (blood donation, Medical camps, Vocational training, career guidance, sanitation drives, literary and education activities …). Due to the hard work of our club members along with the full fledged support of the common men
Puma CNC is now placed in the front line of the voluntary youth organization in the district with the various subordinate wings like Puma Public Library, Puma Balajana Sakyam (affiliated to Malayala Manorama AKBS), Puma Cricket Club (affiliated to Malappuram district cricket association), Puma tourism club (affiliated to district tourism promotion council)
